You might have seen this already, but it’s just too good not to post:
The vibe is decidedly old school, with straight delivery reminiscent of early rappers like Kurtis Blow or the Sugar Hill Gang. (In fact, since the rapper is a woman, it actually kind of reminds me of Blondie’s foray into hip hop, if you can call it that.) And for some reason, they decided to resurrect one of the most annoying samples in hip hop’s history, the “Hoo! Yeah!” from Rob Base’s “It Takes Two.”
But in spite of this, the video is pretty entertaining, and it actually manages to pack a lot of information about the LHC into the rhymes. In fact, I can see more than a few grade school teachers showing this video in class in an attempt to make physics seem cool. I don’t think it will accomplish that feat, but if you’re already nerdy enough, you’ll probably enjoy the video. Check it out.
“The things that it discovers will rock you in the head.” I sure hope they do.
EDIT: I think that some condensed matter physicists should make a response video, then the HEP-CM rivalry can become a full-blown beef, like the mid-90s East Coast-West Coast beef featuring Tupac and Biggie Smalls. (But hopefully with fewer murders and more science.)
Too funny. Oh, and FWIW I’d probably never be considered nerdy today (although I wrote to NASA and was a Doctor Who fan as a child) but I loved this video. And, I love what they are trying to do over at CERN. Can’t wait ’til next year to see what they learn from the collisions.
